Robert Thomas Simons, 86, of Sterling, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, after a brief illness.
Bob was born on Jan. 10, 1940, in New Bern, NC to Alanzo Richard and Roberta Elizabeth (Banks) Simons. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 – 1962 having served on the USS Chemung. On Dec. 28, 1979 he married Carol Joyce Quillen and she preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2010. Bob retired from the City of Wadsworth Water Treatment Plant and over the years, enjoyed going to his grandkid’s sporting events. Bob loved going out to eat and was a big Elvis fan.
Surviving are his daughters, Amy Simons of Creston, Cindy and her husband Bruce Slater of Wooster and Vivian and her husband Bruce Widmer of Sterling; grandchildren, Kyle Simons, Taylor Simons, Nick and his wife Kim Slater, Shaun and his wife Kelly Slater, Alisha and her husband Justin Gasser, Vindy Powell and JD Widmer; 10 great-grandchildren and a brother Richard and his wife Linda Simons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and a sister, Dorothy Geitgey.
Military Honors will be held on Friday, April 17th at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
