CRESTON – Richard G. Russell, 81, of Creston, Ohio died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, after a brave battle with cancer.

Richard was born February 10, 1938 in Orrville, to the late Alvin C. and Ethel F. (Sabins) Russell, and was married to V. Kay (Weekley) Russell on October 13, 1963.

He was a 1958 graduate of Norwayne High School and volunteered for service with the US Army in August 1959. Upon being honorable discharge in August 1961, Richard joined the Army Reserves and continued employment at Morton Salt in Rittman where he retired from there in 2000 after 42 years of service.

Upon retiring, Richard spent his time traveling and cruising the world with his wife, spending special time with his grandchildren, woodworking, and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife, V. Kay Russell; sisters, Leatha Greathouse, Margaret Russell and Louise Lanz and brothers, Alvin C. Russell, Jr., Ronald "Bill" Russell, and Marion Irvin Russell.

Surviving are his children, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Andrea Russell of Wooster, and a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Russell and Dave Edwards of Concord, NC; special grandchildren, Jacy Theiss and fiancée Josh Berkhard of Columbus, Joe Theiss and his wife Aimee of Wooster, and Shawna Russell; brothers, Robert Russell of Medina; sisters, Ruth Sohn of Hamilton, OH,  Esther Bailey of Canal Fulton, and Marjorie Beavis of Raleigh, NC.

It was Richard’s request that a private family service is held.  Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
