Richard L. Lozier

Richard “Dick” Lozier, 93, died April 10, 2024. He was born January 24, 1931 in Perrysville, Ohio, the

son of William and Leona (Rosenbrough) Lozier. He married Lucille Hines, his high school sweetheart,

on June 14, 1953. They were married 68 years. He made his home in Ashland and Wayne counties

living in Creston for 63 years.

Dick served two years in the Army in Nuremberg, Germany from 1951 to 1953 during post war

occupation. Dick graduated from the Akron Barber College in 1955. He barbered in West Salem for 5

years. Then at the age of 30 he started and ran a business in Creston for 40 years as the owner and

operator of Dick’s Barber Shop from 1961 until August 28, 2001. Then he made barber house calls to his

loyal customers until the arrival of COVID-19. He very much enjoyed being a barber. He served on the

Creston counsel for 10 years and coached Creston little league baseball for 6 years. Dick also worked at

the Creston Ox Roast. He was a member of the Creston American Legion, Wooster Memorial Park, and

Sterling Methodist Church.

Dick loved sports. He was All County in basketball in high school. In golf he achieved 2 holes in one. In

bowling he bowled 18 strikes in a row to earn a perfect 300-game ring in 1981. He played fast pitch

softball until he was 48 years old. Dick liked adventure and hunting since childhood for wild morel

mushrooms. Dick enjoyed playing cards with his wife, playing checkers in the barber shop, playing

bingo, and watching sports, game shows and westerns. Other hobbies for him included fishing, fox,

rabbit, squirrel and deer hunting and telling jokes and stories.

Dick enjoyed all his travels to Europe, Canada and around the U.S.A. with Lucille. Their favorite

snowbird spot was staying the month of February at Tropical Manor in Dayton Beach, Florida.

Dick’s very special hobby and skill was gardening. He annually produced a large vegetable garden and

enjoyed growing produce for his family, neighbors and friends.

Dick is survived by children Eric Lozier of Bath Township, Ohio, Elaine (James) Baisden of Wooster

Ohio, Clark (Robin) Lozier of Portage, Michigan, 4 grandchildren, Justin Baisden (Stefanie), Jared

Baisden (Mackenzie), Natalyn Baisden (Chris Walter), Henry Lozier and 4 great-grandchildren, Jaxon

Hobson, Kingsley Baisden, Luke Walter, and Harper Walter.

He was preceded in death by wife Lucille, sister Wilma Shellar, brothers Albert and Ernest Lozier,

nephew William Lozier, niece Joyce Lozier, and his parents.

When asked recently what he would like to be remembered for he said that he loved his job, that he

enjoyed gardening and that he loved his family.

Private family services will be held with burial at Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
