Reed Austin Seiberling

Reed A. Seiberling, 92, of Creston died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a brief illness.

Reed was born Oct. 11, 1925 in Wadsworth to the late Walter and Lillian (Swigart) Seiberling and graduated from Norton High School in 1944. Reed proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1944 – 1946 having served in the Tank Corp in the Pacific and upon being discharged from the service attended agriculture school and resumed transporting milk. He was an independent milk hauler for 45 years delivering to Reiter Dairy until his retirement in 1988. On Nov. 15, 1958 he married the former Phyllis Linter Raber and together they raised six children in the Creston area. Reed was a member of the Creston Canaan United Methodist Church, the Creston Lions Club having been a member of the former Leroy Lions Club, the Reiter Retirees and the Wayne County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, vacations and fishing at the family home in Canada and serving in the community. He was honored as a Harry Hawk Day honoree for his volunteer service to the Annual Firemen’s Auction and had been a former 4-H advisor.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; children, Phillip D. (Joy) Raber of Burbank, Bruce (Laura) Raber of Florida, Lu Ann Raber of Canaan, Betty (Jeff) Underwood of Creston, Joyce (Jim) Rice of West Salem and Susan Brown of Creston; 14 grandchildren and a boat load of great-grandchildren with more on the way. Reed was truly a man of faith who truly loved his family and his friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Walter J., and Bruce Seiberling, Maxine Nice and Elaine Ramstahler.

Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Creston Canaan United Methodist Church 166 S. Main St., Creston. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
