Paul Leslie Younker, 88, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Renaissance of Richfield after a long period of declining health.
Paul was born on Oct. 1, 1936 in Sterling to Ray Fauble and Frona Valentine (Schar) Younker and was a 1955 graduate of Norwayne High School. He was active in 4-H and in 1955 was the first King of Rural Youth at the Wayne County Fair. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1963 and on Feb. 23, 1958 he married Phyllis Jean Jolley. They were married for 56 years until her passing on Sept. 23, 2014. Paul had operated a small dairy farm and had worked at Sears and later retired from Northwood Lumber. He was an active member of Canaan Lutheran Church where he was a Deacon and member of the Church Council. He had volunteered at People to People Ministries and was a faithful blood donor. Paul received his private pilot’s license and he and Phyllis enjoyed traveling in their RV out West. They had been members of the Holiday Rambler Camping Club. Paul’s last chance to travel was in 2018 with the Holmes-Wayne Honors Trip to Washington, DC. Paul will be remembered for his love of helping people and that he had a smile for everyone.
Surviving are his three children and their spouses, Denise and Jim Frericks of Akron, Daniel and Sherry Younker of Wooster and Donald and Anna Younker of Akron; 5 grandchildren, Abby (Joe) Crowder, Madison (Matt) Mervin, Gabriel (Lisa) Younker, Justin (Jacquie) Younker and Paul Younker; 5 great-granddaughters, Emerson, Willow, Charlotte, Francine and Josie and his sister, Ruth Bishop of Wooster.
Services will be Wednesday, April 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Canaan Lutheran Church, 10851 Friendsville Rd., Creston with Pastor Dan Cammarn officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, April 1st from 5-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.
