Patricia Ruth Dilling

Patricia Ruth Dilling, 96, of Seville, OH passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2025, after a brief illness.

Pat was born on June 26, 1929, in Everett, PA to Ira and Ruth (Brallier) Holsopple.  She graduated from Lewistown High School in Lewistown, PA and later from Malone College in Canton, OH.  On June 19, 1949, she married John Robert Dilling.  He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2022, after 72 years of marriage.  Pat taught school in Louisville, OH and later became the first woman principal in Louisville. When asked in her last days of her life, she said her most meaningful moments were serving as teacher and principal when she was able to be a spiritual influence to the children in her care.

Prior to moving to Seville in 2003, Pat and John made their home in Louisville, OH.  Pat was a member of the Grace Brethren Church in North Canton, where John had been the pastor for 18 years.  After moving to Seville, Pat worshiped at Grace Brethren Church in Rittman and at Creston Presbyterian Church.  A daily priority for Pat was reading God’s Word and continually praying for her family, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.  With a needle always in hand, Pat loved to quilt and stitch and her families’ homes are filled with her creations.  She was an avid traveler and she traveled with John to all 50 states enjoying the beauty and wonder of God’s creation.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Anne Russell of Gig Harbor, WA, Robert Martin and his wife Sharon Dilling of Basye VA, and Deborah Sue and her husband Matthew Tomsheck of Seville; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Garris and brothers, John Holsopple and Paul Holsopple.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and a sister, Alice Marie Borden.

Services will be Monday, Aug. 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastors Mike VanArsdale, Joe Cosentino, Bud Olszewski and Clark Genet officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Martinsburg, PA.  Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Creston Presbyterian Church, 13070 Cleveland Rd., Creston, OH 44217.
