Miriam Schafrath, 87 of Seville passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026 at Reserve Care Hospice, formerly Hospice of the Western Reserve of Medina.
Miriam was born on January 20, 1939 to Coletta and Warren Sibila. She grew up in the Massillon area and graduated from Canton Central Catholic High School. After graduation, Miriam married Joe Schafrath on June 2, 1962.
After raising her family, Miriam worked at the Cloverleaf Local Schools in Seville as the cafeteria manager. She enjoyed playing in many different card clubs over the years, canning, pie making, sports, puzzles, traveling, camping and being a terrific mother and grandmother. Miriam was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Seville since its inception in the early 80’s and was active in the church throughout the years.
Left to cherish Miriam’s memory are her husband, Joe Schafrath, her daughters Patty (Doug) Rusnak of Seville and Pam (Dennis) Leonard of Seville and her sons Mike (Sherri) Schafrath of Ashland and John Schafrath of Seville, her grandchildren Brandon Rusnak, Tyler Rusnak, Taylor (Austin) DuBose, Alex (Regan) Leonard, Nick Leonard, Nathan (Kellin) Schafrath and Amber (Tim) Oswald and her sisters, Marlene (Mig) Cormany and Cheryl (Skeet) Fischer.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, Coletta and Warren Sibila, her brother Warren (Faye) Sibila, her sisters Ellie (Don) Shonk and Sister Mary Beverly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 60 High St. Seville, OH 44273 with Father Ed Suszynski officiating. Calling hours will precede the Mass from 9:00AM to 11:00AM including a rosary at the start of calling hours. Burial will follow the Mass at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. A luncheon will be served after the burial.
