Richard Michael “Mike” Miller, 77, of Sterling, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Mike was born on July 2, 1948, in Dover, OH to Earl C. and Dorothy D. (Jones) Miller. He graduated from Garaway High School in 1966 and attended Lindsey Wilson College and Western Kentucky University. He had worked at Western Reserve Insurance in Wooster before spending over 30 years at Wayne Mutual Insurance. After retirement, Mike enjoyed mowing at Hawks Nest Golf Course where he had many friends. On August 6, 1994, he married Denice Ann Kent and together they shared over 30 years together. Mike was an active member of Canaan Lutheran Church where he had served as Council President and served on various committees. He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, attending races at Dragway 42 and golfing with his buddies. A man with a great sense of humor who always had a story, Mike will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his wife, Denice, twin daughters, Amy Jo Miller of Overland Park, KS, and Jennifer Lynn Miller of Fairfax VA and daughter and son-in-law Christy and Scott Sparr of Wooster; grandson, Nick Sparr and his fiancée Maddie Schlauch of Wooster; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Lee Krieg of De Pere, WI and Susan and Dave Bambeck of Sun City, SC and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Earl on Aug. 1, 2002, his mother, Dorothy on May 26, 2011 and a brother, Earl Thomas Miller on June 13, 1977.
Services will be Monday, Aug. 25th at 11:00 a.m.at Canaan Lutheran Church in Creston with Pastor Daniel Cammarn officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or Canaan Lutheran Church, 10851 Friendsville Rd., Creston, OH 44691.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster and Community Hospice in New Philadelphia and the Sterling Fire and Rescue for all their care and support during Mike’s illness.
