Mary Jane Culbertson, 101, of Wooster passed away Dec. 19, 2020 at Westview Healthy Living after a courageous 5-week battle with the Covid-19 virus.
Jane was born 22nd of July ,1919 at her parents Clarence and Esther Bower Elliston’s home near Creston. Jane graduated from Creston High School in 1937.
She married Charles Edwin Arnold on the 17th of July 1937 and Wright Culbertson in 1965. Both of them are deceased.
She worked for many years at the cosmetics counter and pharmacy at Gray Drug Store at the College Hills Shopping Center. She loved to go on long hikes with her best friend Dori Mast and to create using stained glass. Jane, like her Mother, was the “Queen” of Scrabble. She never met an opponent she couldn’t beat. Even the workers at Westview couldn’t beat her!
She attended Grace Brethren Church and was a member of the First Church of God where she along with her granddaughter, Judy Campbell, were baptized on the same day by her grandson Pastor Jon Arnold.
Besides her parents and husbands, Jane was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Charlene) Elliston of Ashland, Rex (Genevieve) Elliston, and John (Ruth) Elliston of Creston; son, Richard Arnold of Sterling; step daughter, Sally Holbrook of Doylestown and step-grandsons Christopher Holbrook and Trinity Culbertson.
Jane will be greatly missed by her daughter, Carol Sherwin of Creston and son Jon (Pat) Arnold of Wooster; stepson, Steve Culbertson of Wooster; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Debbie Shamp, Steve (Joy) Sherwin, Todd Sherwin, Jerry Arnold, Jeff (Cathy ) Arnold of Creston, Jon (Anlexys) Arnold of Orlando FL and Judy (Brent) Campbell of Wooster; Erin and Alyssa Holbrook, Sarah (Aiden) and Camden Finn, Matthew( Nikki) Carter and Lucas Holbrook, Kaden and Kalie Campbell, Megan and Amelia Arnold, Noelia Zapata. Corey and Mark Shamp, Tim, Spenzer, Chanze, and Kinzie Arnold; cousin, Eleanor Shoup, niece, Pam (Dave) Battles of Sarasota FL; nephews, Robert (Bonnie) Elliston of Michigan and David Elliston on Creston
The family would like to thank the workers at Westview Healthy Living Center for all the love and care they gave Jane during her stay there.
There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be at Westfield Center Cemetery a long side her parents. Murray Funeral Home of Creston is assisting the family.
