Marlin Hostettler, age 85 of Creston, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, OH surrounded by his family.
Marlin Eugene was born on September 13, 1937 in Seville to Raymond and Lucille (Kendall) Hostettler and his family later moved to Rittman, Ohio. Marlin met and married his first wife, Donna Price and they had two daughters, Brenda and Darla Hostettler. As a boy in school, Marlin worked as farm help with various local farmers and at the Rittman Waste Paper Co. and the Ohio Box Board. He graduated from Rittman High School in 1958 and moved to Creston in 1959. He served in the Army as a Specialist in the 526th Ordnance Maintenance Company in Barstow, CA. He was an auto mechanic at Stricklands before and after his service in the Army. He then went to work at International Paper Co. in Wooster where he worked for 30 years in the maintenance department. While there, he served as Union Steward and President of the Credit Union. Marlin also served his local community several times over the years as a Creston Village Councilman.
Marlin is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kaylene (Geltz Brown) Hostettler; his two daughters, Brenda and Darla; his three step-children, Tamra (Douglas) Raess, Gregory (Pamela) Brown and Shawna (Matthew) Keilman; six grandchildren, Dylan (Kathy) Raess, Leigha Raess, Shane Brown, Lara Brown, Jacob Keilman and Rhyan Keilman and three great-granddaughters.
Marlin was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Hostettler, his mother and step-father, Lucille and Louis Krismer and a brother, Richard Hostettler.
Friends may call on Saturday, Dec. 10th from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with a dinner following at Creston Moose Lodge. Burial services will be at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens in Canton at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VA Fisher House, 10521 Lee Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 or on-line at www.fisherhouse.org. Fisher House foundation builds comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital.
