Mark L. Wharton, 72, of Wooster, passed away on May 4, 2023 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster from complications of gallbladder surgery at Cleveland Metro-Health Medical Center.
Mark was born in Blachleyville on Aug. 15, 1950 to Earl and Kerrinne (Clark) Wharton and graduated from Triway High School in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1970 – 1972 and on Dec. 3, 1973 married Janet Ramsier who survives.
Surviving is his wife Jan; son, Abel Earl (Danielle) Wharton, grandsons, Shannon Jr., Hadley and Townes; granddaughter, Kayli; great-grandchildren, Mason, Brendon, Landon and Madilee; a brother, David (Diane) Wharton; a brother-in-law, Mike Kelly; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Woodward and nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mark loved all his grandchildren with a tender heart that overflowed with love for Punky who was his buddy. Living with his Pap Pap, Mark and Punky had daily adventures of some kind and they were fishing buddies as were Hadley and Townes. Three generations of fishing stories have been shared with each one always having the “biggest catch”.
Mark was preceded in death by his son, Shannon Sr., his parents, sisters, Linda “Sissy” Kelly and Connie Bowles and brothers, Alan, Dan and Jeff.
Services will be Friday, Aug. 4th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at “The Server” in Rittman.
