Marilyn Marie Spencer, 84, of Wooster, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster.
Marilyn was born Jan. 20, 1934 in Holmesville to the late Clarence T. and Violet (Swingle) Green and was a 1952 graduate of Fredericksburg High School. On June 26, 1955 she married George Robert Spencer and together they made their home in Fredericksburg prior to moving to Wooster in 1974. She retired from the City of Wooster where she worked in the Water Department and over the years had worked at Wooster Daily Record, Citizens Bank in Fredericksburg and at Wayne County National Bank. Marilyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wooster and the Order of Eastern Star Shreve Chapter #496. She had been active in the Waynedale Music Boosters and had been an election poll worker. She had worked on various election campaigns in Wayne County and Marilyn and George were recipients of the Old Hickory Award for their service and dedication to the Democratic Party. Marilyn enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending the winter months in Florida which she and George did for over 25 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she always enjoyed attending her children and granddaughters school events. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband, George; her children, Debra Becker of Dalton and Richard Spencer of Alexandria, VA; granddaughters, Katelyn and her husband Nate Shultz and Kelsey Becker; sister, Phyllis Bricker of Ft. Myers, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Les and Phyllis Green of Holmesville and Mike and Lynette Green of Wooster; sister-in-law, Ellen Green of Fredericksburg and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Greg Becker and sisters and brothers, Thelda Vincent, Howard Green, Marjean Moravy and Bill Green.
Services will be Saturday, Dec. 8th at 12:00 noon at First Presbyterian Church, 621 College Ave., Wooster with Rev. David Rice officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00.
