Lavon Luke Daugherty

Lavon Luke Daugherty, 97, of Sugarcreek and formerly of Burbank and Wooster, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Burbank Parke Care Center after a period of declining health.

Lavon was born on Aug. 21, 1928, in Burbank to Ray and Narola (Luke) Daugherty and was a 1946 graduate of Burbank High School. On Nov. 23, 1948, he married Joan M. Sayre and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2019. He joined his father in the family business, Burbank Grain & Feed that later included Nova Grain & Feed and Shelby Grain & Feed. Lavon had owned and operated MedWay Chemical Co. and had been a broker for Merrill Lynch, Hornblower, Clayton Brokerage and Commodity Brokerage having spent 10 years training commercial grain brokers before starting Agri Advisory Assoc. in Wooster. In later years he owned and operated Collectors Decanters & Steins in Sugarcreek which he operated up until the time of his death.

Lavon over the years had been a Burbank 4-H Club advisor, serve on the North Central Local School Board, was a member of the Ohio Grain Feed and Fertilizers Assoc. and served on the State of Ohio Agricultural Advisory Committee. Lavon loved collecting decanters and was a member of Rubber City Jim Beam Club. He was an avid fast pitch softball player and was a faithful and dedicated Ohio State Football. Go Buckeyes!

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Gary and Robin Daugherty of Burbank, Bruce and Marcia Daugherty of Wooster, Rick and Bette Daugherty of Ashtabula and Julie and Jerry Craycraft of Grove City; grandchildren, Laurie (Joe) Ksiazek, Joe (Julie) Daugherty, Jara (David) Palmer, Jenna (Jason) Young, Jade (John Caleb) Sanders, Bill (Casey) Billington, John Moran, and Michelle Hamby and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, his parents and three sisters, Lanora LaBant, Juanita Romick and Delores Fitzpatrick.

Services will be Wednesday, June 10th at 12:00 noon at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call from 10:30 until time of services at noon. Burial will be in Burbank Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr., Suite E, Uniontown, OH 44685 or to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 18, Burbank, OH 44214. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at Burbank Parke and Crossroads Hospice. Also a special heartfelt thank you to Lavon’s home health care workers, Edna Zimmerly, Esther Keim, Ida Raber, Lovina Davis and Katelyn Zimmerly who cared for him at home so he could remain working and to Esther from Esther’s Bakery who supplied him with his daily cream stick for many years.
