Larry M. Leaver, 77, of Wooster, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 with his family at his side.
He was born on May 21, 1947 in Wooster to John D. and Virginia E. (Wilson) Leaver. He graduated from Norwayne High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army from 1966 – 1968 during the Vietnam War. He married his wife, Linda on May 30, 1970 and they spent nearly 55 years together, having had their son, Brian in 1972. Larry was a Boilermaker for 30 years at Babcock and Wilcox in Barberton. He then worked as Journeyman Boilermaker until his retirement in 2005. In his younger years, Larry enjoyed hunting with his friends, especially Mel Stanley. He loved spending time with his brothers, Bud, Jim, Paul and Billy, his parents and his wife’s family. As a grandparent, he loved spending time with his grandson, Quentin who he loved to make laugh on the phone. Larry was a well-respected fiddle player. He played in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana including the WW VA Jamboree with The Stone Mountain Boys, Bluegrass Mountaineers, Andy Hamilton, Kentucky Club and Mike Gorrell and Northwest Territory. He was on many recording projects including his own CD. He also built instruments.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Heather Leaver; grandson, Quentin Leaver; brothers and sisters-in-aw, Bud Leaver, Jim and Linda Leaver and Paul and Loretta Leaver and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Phil Grier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Billy Leaver and sister-in-law, Carol Leaver.
Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 30th from 4-6 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Linda Grier will officiate. A family interment services will be held at Burbank Cemetery.
