Karl O. Benchoff, 86, of Wooster passed away at his home on May 8th.
Karl was born January 12, 1939 to Guy and Mary Killough Benchoff, the ninth of eleven children.
Karl graduated from Rittman High School where he was an A student and outstanding athlete, earning 11 letters in football, basketball and baseball. It was there he also met the love of his life Kathryn “Katie” Snyder.
Karl and Katie were married December 31, 1958 and celebrated 66 years of marriage and were together for 70 years!
After high school Karl served his country in the United States Army. Following his service he went to work at the International Paper Company spending 41 years there retiring in 2002.
Karl enjoyed spending time with family especially many large Benchoff family gatherings, playing cards, golfing, listening to music and was an avid sports fan, following the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also loved watching his grandsons in their various sports activities.
Karl is survived by his loving wife Katie, sons Karl “K.O.” Benchoff and his wife Christina and Kirk Benchoff and his wife Connie, grandsons Michael Benchoff and his wife Megan, Andrew Benchoff, Aaron Benchoff and Jacob Benchoff plus many nieces and nephews.
Karl was preceded in death by sisters Betty, Joy, Virginia, Evelyn and Marilyn and brothers Donald “Sonny”, Guy Jr. , Dale, Roger and Patrick.
Private Graveside service will be at 2:15 Friday May 16 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Seville, Ohio.
Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling the arrangements.
