Karen Ann Hankins, 73, of Wooster, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Karen was born on Dec. 21, 1951 in Ashtabula to Merlin and Nancy (Williams) McCrary and was a 1970 graduate of Cloverleaf High School. On Dec. 5, 1981 she married Michael Hankins and they lived and loved each other until Mike’s death on Feb. 15, 2011. Karen had worked at O.E.C, in Medina for 25 years and later at Osh Kosh at the Lodi Mall for six years until retiring in 2012. She was a member of Creston Moose Lodge, Wooster Eagles and T.O.P.S. in Wooster where she had been the treasurer. She enjoyed doing diamond painting, traveling and trips to Les Vegas and Wheeling. She loved getting together with her high school classmates and being with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children and their spouse, Kari and Brent Murray of Sterling and Brian and Heather Walton of Wooster; her four grandchildren, Hailee Becerra and Grant Shrock, Mitchell and Michelle Murray, Logan Walton and Quinn Fertig and Colton Walton; great-grandchildren Wren Parsons Meadow Murray, Dean Kelley and Weston Murray and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Burns and Sherry and her husband Gary Bowen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, her parents, a brother Michael McCrary; grandson, Zachary Murray and brother-in-law, Phil Hankins.
Services will be Thursday, March 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Jim Yannayon and John Murray officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
