Joseph "J.P." Kouns

Jospeh Perry “JP” Kouns, 85, of Creston, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster.

JP was born on Aug. 14, 1939 in Carter County, KY to the late Clayton and Iona (Broom) Kouns and graduated from Marsh Fork High School. On Dec. 24, 1960 he married Nancy Lee McBrayer and they had made their home in Cleveland before moving to Creston in 1998.  He retired from LTV Steel in 1998 after 34 years and was a member of Canaan Free Will Baptist Church.  JP enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and he will be missed for his sense of humor.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy; his three children, Tammy and Greg Cox of Seville, Brian and Barb Kouns of Stow and Brett Kouns and Tanya Estep of Grafton; 6 grandchildren, Brittany and her husband Bryan Erdman, Jarrod Cox and his fiancé, Breana Geiser, Michael Kouns, Joe Kouns, Stephanie Kouns and Jacob Kouns; great-grandchildren, Alivia, Makayla and Kamira; brother-in-law, Grover Daniels and a sister-in-law, Billie Kouns.

He was preceded in death by infant grandson, Trevor Cox; his parents, brothers, Lawrence, Charles, Boyd, James R. and Lewis Kouns and sisters, Belva Kiser, Wilma Workman and Pam Daniels.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Canaan Free Will Baptist Church, 12723 Cleveland Road,  Creston with Pastors Aaron Bailey and James McComas officiating.  Burial will follow at Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Canaan Free Will Baptist Church.
