John Paul Wallace, 89, of Wooster, passed away peacefully while holding his daughter’s hand on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 at Smithville Western Care Center after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. John, also known as “JP”, was born on Feb. 25, 1935 in Hellier, KY to the late James and Elvira (Branham) Wallace, and was  tenth of their eleven children. JP’s parents died while he was still in high school, so he lived with his sister, Rosalie, and her family until he graduated from Elkhorn City High School in 1953.  On August 29th, 1958 he married Vivian Gaye Childers and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2024. John retired from Westinghouse in Orrville having worked there for many years. John Wallace was a hard working man, who had many interests and hobbies. He was an excellent gardener! His tomatoes and sweet corn were the best around. In his younger days, he and his wife were members of the Cedar Valley Cloggers. He also enjoyed dancing, woodworking, wood carving, puzzles, playing games, watching Kentucky Wildcats basketball, reading, fishing, mushroom hunting, bluegrass music, and playing his mandolin (which he made by hand, along with two dulcimers). He was a Jack of all trades and could learn to do anything he set his mind to. He was also an excellent Poppy. He was a member of the Fredericksburg Church of Christ. Surviving are his daughter, Julia Wallace of Wooster; granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and Adam Girvin of Wooster and great-grandsons, Henry and Archie; daughter-in-law, Carla Wallace of Wooster and nieces and nephews including special niece, Mary Lou Sifers who was like a sister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; his son, Greg Wallace, his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date and he will be buried at Cook Cemetery, in Ashcamp, Ky. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wellspring Hospice, 3905 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH 44053. Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is handling arrangements.
