John H. Elliston

John H. Elliston, 94, of Creston, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a brief illness.

John was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Saginaw, MI to the late Clarence and Esther (Bower) Elliston and was a 1942 graduate of Creston High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 as an Aviation Cadet and served until 1943 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1943 – 1946 having served in the Army Air Force Unit. On Dec. 14, 1946 he married Ruth Heathman who preceded him in death on June 20, 2015. John was a carpenter and builder having operated Elliston Builders for many years and had made his home in Creston most of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with family.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Bonnie) Elliston of Norton Shores, MI, Pam (David) Battles of Sarasota, FL and David Elliston of Creston; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Culbertson of Wooster and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Roger Elliston in 2002; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Christine Elliston and brothers, Robert and Rex Elliston.

Services will be Tuesday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Lori Burdette-Steele officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
