Jeffrey Alan Hostetler

November 9, 1960 — July 27, 2024

Creston

Jeffrey Alan Hostetler, 63, of Creston, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the family property in Monroe County.  Jeff was at his happy place, working in the woods and preparing to build their cabin. Jeff was born on Nov. 9, 1960 in Wadsworth to Walter Andrew and Lucille Ann (Giet) Hostetler and was a 1979 graduate of Norwayne High School.  On Oct. 11, 1980, he married the love of his life, Pamela Jo Mercer and together they built a beautiful life and family.  Jeff first worked for Fred Gasser before becoming a self-employed general contractor.  He joined Bricklayers Local #40 in 2002 and later transferred to Local #5 and had served on the Creston Board of Public Affairs from 2008 – 2023.  Jeff loved his sons, Drew and Taylor and coached them in youth baseball which he did for 12 years.  He started Hostetler’s Archery in Sterling which he ran for many years and where he mentored many youth as they learned about hunting.  As an avid hunter, Jeff loved hunting turkey, deer, rabbit, squirrel and mushrooms.  The perfect hunt to him was seeing everyone around him harvest and take home whatever they were hunting.  He was looking forward to building their cabin in Monroe County which was a home away from home and where they had many friends.  Jeff was an amazing cook whose smoked brisket and pulled pork were the best around.  Jeff was a hard worker, a man that put his family first and was a praying man.  He couldn’t wait to have grandchildren and his granddaughter, Ivy Rose and his grandson, William Alan were the loves of his life. Jeff is survived by his wife, Pam of nearly 44 years; his sons, Drew and his wife, Jenna of Windham, NH and Taylor Hostetler of Burbank; grandchildren, Ivy Rose and William; his father, Walter Hostetler of Creston and brothers, Andy and his wife, Kim Hostetler of Sterling and Mike Hostetler of Creston.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille in 2021. At Jeff’s request, family services will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston on Aug. 1st with Pastor Josh Chaffin officiating.  Burial will be in Sterling Crown Hill Cemetery and there will be no calling hours.  A public gathering to remember Jeff will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Creston Community Church, Food Pantry, PO Box 380, Creston, OH 44217.
