Jeanette Whitmore Loy

Mary Jeanette Loy, 94, of West Salem, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Wooster Community Hospital.

Jeanette was born on May 19, 1932, in Lodi to Willard “Bill” and Mary (Brubaker) Whtimore. She was a Burbanker, having lived in Burbank and graduated from Burbank High in 1950. Jeanette then graduated from Ashland College and later earned her master’s degree in education from Long Beach State. Jeanette taught business and commercial classes at Northwestern High School and for several years at Jordan High School in Long Beach, CA. She taught a total of 29 years before retiring from Northwestern in 1992. On Sept. 3, 1960, she married Thomas Russell Loy, and they made a lifetime of wonderful memories over their 66 years together. Jeanette is remembered for her great cooking, her love for Tom, her children, her grandchildren, her sister Jane (also her partner in crime aka the Whitmore Girls), Jane’s family, her dedication and support for Northwestern Schools, the students that she fondly remembered…and of course her pigtails.

Surviving is her husband, Tom; her two children and four grandchildren, Hanna Sanford (Brad Arrowsmith) and her children Cal and Grant Rhamy, and Mike and his wife Shannon Loy and their children Aidan and Gillian; and her nephews and nieces, Joe Miley (Diana), Jon Miley (Amy), Julie (Miley) Miller (Shawn), and Jackie (Miley) Russell (Wayne), and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Jim Miley.

A private family service will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wooster Community Hospital Foundation Development Office, 1761 Beall Ave., Wooster, OH 44691.
