James A. Fetzer, 89, of Creston, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster while surrounded by his family. Jim was born on July 28, 1934 in Canaan Township to Elton and Erma (Mowrer) Fetzer and was a 1952 graduate of Creston High School. On June 4, 1954 he married Betty Lou Kline and Betty preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2007. Jim started working for Homer Schmid Plumbing which later became Schmid Plumbing and Heating and retired in 1996 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #94 and Canaan Lutheran Church. Jim loved entertaining family, friends and the community at Fetzer’s Woods which he and Betty had established and where he hosted many hog roasts over the years. He and Betty were honored by the Creston Fire Dept. at the annual Harry Hawk Day for their contribution and hosting the department over the years. Jim enjoyed mowing the grounds and working on the Fetzer Farm where they had their sugar camp, attending auctions and he spent many days fishing for perch and walleye on Lake Erie. In recent years, Jim could be found riding around on his Gator visiting friends and neighbors. Surviving are his children, Victor Fetzer of Creston and Betsy and her husband Charles DeFelice of Shreve; grandsons, Nicholas and his wife Holly DeFelice and Vincent DeFelice; great-grandson, Brecken; sister, Ellen Koch of West Salem; brother Ron and his wife Chriss Fetzer of Wooster; sister-in-law, Bonnie Fetzer of Creston and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; an infant daughter, Penny, a son, Rex, his parents and brothers, Eugene and Richard Fetzer. Services will be Saturday, Jan. 13th at 12:00 noon at Canaan Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Cammarn officiating. Burial will be in Canaan Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691 or to Canaan Lutheran Church, 10851 Friendsville Rd., Creston, OH 44217. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
