Howard R. Hartong, Sr., 88, of Medina, passed away Monday, March 20,2017 at Life Care of Medina after a period of declining health.
Howard was born June 30, 1928 in Green, Summit Co, to the late Charles H. and Mary C. (Lautzenheiser) Hartong and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 – 1955. He was a retired truck driver and had previously been engaged in farming and was a member of American Legion in Polk.
Preceded in death by his wives the former Isabel Graves in 1992 and Gertrude Hookway in 2010, he is survives by children, Donna (James) Rogers of Duncan, SC, Gara (Ron) Patton of Homerville, Howard (Cindi Graves) Hartong Jr. of Sullivan and Everett (Lisa) Hartong of Medina; grandchildren, Cindy (Frank) Dean, Jeremy (Misty Williams) Hartong, Nate (Candice) Hartong, Tiffany Patton, Ben (Melissa) Hartong and Cheyenne Patton; great-grandchildren, JT, Jacob, Courtney, Owen and Wyatt and a sister, Vera Strayer of Florida
In addition to his wives, he is preceded in death by a son, Timothy; brothers, Earl, Robert, Harold, Wilbur, Charles and Ralph and sisters, Eva, Laura, Helen and Gladys.
Services with military honors will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Southview Cemetery in Sullivan. There will be no calling hours. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Harbor Light Hospice, 677 H Alpha Dr., Highland Heights, OH 44143.
