Herbert Alvin Patterson, 91, of Wooster passed away at home on Monday, July 7, 2025, after a brief illness.
Herb was born on the Patterson Family Farm near Clark on July 21, 1933, and was a1951 graduate of Clark High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954 – 1956 and on Dec. 13, 1957, married Norita Elaine Dravenstott who survives. He retired from the Packaging Corporation of American in Ashland after 39 years and had made his home in Creston for 60 years until moving to Wooster in 2017. He attended Canaan Free Will Baptist Church and had previously attended Paradise Church of the Brethren where he was always willing to help where needed. Herb was a founding member of the 555 Honors Detachment. Herb enjoyed woodworking, spending time at the family farm and he always loved being with family.
Surviving are his wife, Norita; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Patrick Bertsch of Wooster; son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Jennifer Patterson of Pataskala; granddaughter, Grace Patterson; grandson-in-law, Justin Hayes and nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nellie Hayes, great-granddaughter, Elleanor Hayes, his parents and 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Services will be Monday, July 14th at 11:30 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
