Harry R. Sonnedecker, 88, of Albany, Georgia, peacefully entered into his heavenly home on March 6, 2018 at his home.

Harry was born February 18, 1930 in Creston, Ohio to the late Sewall B. and Leafa (Steele) Sonnedecker. He graduated from Wayne County High School and later from Miami University of Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On February 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Martha Elizabeth Dravenstott, his beloved wife of 67 years and they resided in Wadsworth, Ohio. He began his career with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. In 1967 they moved to Albany, Georgia where he took a position of Comptroller at the new Firestone Tire and Rubber Plant. After retiring from Firestone, he worked as an Auditor for the Dougherty County Tax Office. He was a member of Porterfield United Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia.

He enjoyed playing and watching all types of sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed history, outdoors, nature and he and his wife traveled around the United States to many places to see the incredible beauty of our country. He often said that only GOD could have created something as beautiful as the sites they had seen. Most of all, he enjoyed his family!

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Elizabeth Sonnedecker of Albany, Georgia, son Dean (Judy) Sonnedecker of Powder Springs, Georgia, daughter Susan (David) Overbey of Albany, Georgia, and son Gary (Beverly) Sonnedecker of Evans, Georgia. Also, a sister, Norma Slater of Creston, Ohio. There are 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, March 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
