Gregory Lynn Gorey

Gregory L. Gorey, 65, of West Salem, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024 at University Hospital in Cleveland after having suffered a severe stroke.

Greg was born on June 30, 1958 in Lodi to George and Gertrude (Stahl) Gorey and was a 1976 graduate of Cloverleaf High School.  On Oct. 11, 1992, he married the love of his life, Christine McCarthy and she survives.  Greg owned and operated Bottom Line Trenching with his son, Daniel, and he enjoyed working with his customers and fellow contractors, and living amongst and helping his many Amish neighbors.  His first love was always his family and he will be remembered for his great storytelling and for being honest to a fault.  Greg had a unique personality and was loved and respected by many. Over the years, he dedicated time to help and support Homerville Scout Troop #459, Black River Pirate Marching Band, and assisting as a section leader for Wreaths for Western Reserve to honor veterans.

Surviving are his wife Christine; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Kerra Gorey; his mother, Gertie Gorey; brothers, Doug Gorey and Tom Gorey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dawn and David Baker, Debbie Harper and Lynn and Ron Zivcsak; his father-in-law, Tom McCarthy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patty and Richard Murphy; many loving nieces and nephews, and special family friends, Dave Aikman, Carolyn Rief and family, and many wonderful friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, George and brothers, Darrell Stahl, Ed Gorey and Roy Gorey, and mother-in-law Leanne Koenig.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 13th at 11:00 a.m.  Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Reid Firestone officiating. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In honor of Greg, don’t dress up, be casual.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the scouting or band booster organization of your choice or operationfirstresponse.org
