Gertrude Mary “Gertie” Gorey, 89, of Burbank, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice Lifecare after a brief illness.
Gertie was born in Creston on Nov. 7, 1935 to Lester and Della (Peppard) Stahl. She married George Gorey in 1955 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1992. Gertie had worked for over 50 years in various restaurants that included, Sticks in Lodi, the L&K and at Bev’s Restaurant and Pike Station Inn in Creston. She enjoyed playing Bingo and going to Game Rooms and she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gertie considered everyone to be family, and she will be missed.
Surviving are her children, Douglas Gorey of Burbank, Tom Gorey of Jacksonville, FL, Dawn and David Baker of Creston, Debra Harper of Burbank and Lynn and Ron Zivcsak of Medina; daughter-in-law, Christine Gorey of West Salem, 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sons, Darrell Stahl and Ed, Greg and Roy Gorey; son-in-law, Woody Harper; brothers, Arthur, Raymond and Kenneth Stahl and two infant brothers and sisters, Edith Henderson, Pauline Huffman, Katie Carver and Betty Jane Balder.
Services will be Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
