Gerry (Geraldine) Buss, 96, of Apple Creek, passed away in her sleep on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Medina Hospital after a brief illness.
Gerry was born on Jan. 11, 1929 in Orrville to William and Mary (Ulli) Deetz and was a 1946 graduate of Apple Creek High School. On April 3, 1948, she married Weldon Buss and they were married for 68 years before his passing on Feb. 19, 2016. Gerry had worked as a secretary at Apple Creek State Institution, worked at the Apple Creek Restaurant, The Golden Bear, and retired at the age of 80 from the Dutch Heart. She worked on the family farm with Weldon where they raised their three children. She also enjoyed raising baby pigs. Later, she loved traveling in their motor home - especially to Arizona in the winters where she had a love for cacti and gave them names. She was an avid gardener and always loved mowing the lawn. Her family enjoyed her homemade pies, caramels and buns, and she had a card club that gathered together to play for over 50 years. Gerry was a dedicated Cleveland Indians fan and was also known for her Origami dollar bill crafting. She was a faithful and active member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Apple Creek.
Surviving are her 3 children and spouses, Karen (Fred) Mathys of Wooster, Steve Buss of Apple Creek and Lori (Mark) Zody of Apple Creek; 9 grandchildren and spouses, Annie (Michael) Gibson, Brady (Kendra) Mathys, Shannon (Shawn) Hutto, Brandon (Allison) Klintworth, Cody (Morgan) Klintworth, Angie Oliver, Jamie (Cynthia) Brawley, Nikki (Ryan) Zody and Walker Zody; 11 great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Owen, Jarred, Cameron, Zoe, Lincoln, Macy, Lily, Piper, Cearra and Dakotah; a sister-in-law, Ann Buss, of Apple Creek and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weldon, her parents, and her sisters, Margaret Myers and Betty Ann Scheufler.
Services will be Thursday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 68 W. Main St., Apple Creek with Pastor Dale Smith officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. A luncheon will follow the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s UCC, PO Box 205, Apple Creek, OH 44606. Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg is handling arrangement.
