Gerald Merton Rhoads

Gerald Merton Rhoads, 82, of Creston, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 at the Avenue of Wooster after a period of declining health.

Gerald was born on Oct. 14, 1940 in Creston to Russel and Doris (Gattshall) Rhoads and married Rosina “Rosie” Pelfrey on March 31, 1961.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2016.  Gerald retired from Rexroth in Wooster and had served on the Creston Fire Dept. for 25 years.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and trips to the casinos with family and friends and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a member of Creston Moose Lodge 1224.

Surviving are his three children their spouses, Tim and Brenda Rhoads of Burbank, Janet and the late John NeSmith of Creston and Susan and Mike Bertschy of Creston; grandchildren, Tim and his wife Kathy Rhoads, Ginny NeSmith, Amber NeSmith and Ashley and her husband Kevin Stowe; great-grandchildren, Amarrah, Brooklynn, Allie, Kyrah, Kaydence, Kamdon and Kolson and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie, a grandson, Paul Marshall, III, sisters, Marcia Piatt and Roberta “Bobbie” Still and a brother, Dale Rhoads.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 16th at 12:00 noon at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. Larry Rickey officiating.  Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.  Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Canaan Twp.
