Creston

Gerald Lewis Higgins, 74, of Creston, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Wooster Community Hospital after a brief illness.

Jerry was born on Oct. 8, 1946 in Akron to Howard and Virginia (Stewart) Higgins and was a 1966 graduate of Norwayne High School.  He honorably served as an Army Medic during the Vietnam War from 1966 – 1968.  Jerry retired from Chick Master in 2009 with over 30 years of service and had made his home in Creston and Rittman all of his life.  He was a member of Creston American Legion Post 497, Creston Moose Lodge 1224, Medina Eagles, Aerie #2224, Widows, Widowers and Friends and the Creston Seniors.  He attended Creston Canaan United Methodist Church and was a Norwayne sports fan.  Jerry loved Old Westerns, fishing, was a history buff and could give the latest stats for any sports teams.  He had been an umpired for many years and could be seen walking or riding his bike in Creston.  Jerry was definitely one of the good guys and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his companion of 25 years, Gerri Williams; his much loved daughters, Jessica (Josh) Higgins of Rittman and Michele (John) Higgins of Creston; his special granddaughter, Madelynn Winkler; Gerri’s grandchildren that were like his own, Ethan and Sara Figley and their dad, Chris Figley; sisters and brothers, Sandy (Chuck) Marquess of Akron, Gary (Peggy) Higgins of Apple Creek, Randy (Debbie) Higgins of Wooster, Bonnie Whitmyer of Holmesville and Davy (Char) Higgins of Orrville; a sister-in-law, Debra Higgins of Auburn, IN and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ralph and Charlie Higgins and sisters, Cheryl Shedd and Pamela Brown.
