Gerald "Jerry" Hanzie

Gerald C. “Jerry” Hanzie, 81 of Tuscon, AZ died peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024.

Jerry was born in Sterling on Aug. 14, 1942 to Raymond and Arlene (Mast) Hanzie and graduated from Norwayne High School in 1960.  He then went on to attend Ohio Northern University where he studies Business Administration and Accounting, graduating in 1964.  On Aug. 11, 1962 he married Karen Obermiller and they shared 55 beautiful years together until her passing on Dec. 20, 2017.  Jerry was employed at Hoover Vacuums as a Facility Engineer from 1965 – 2000 when he retired.  Jerry enjoyed sports and he loved watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and anything that his children and grandchildren played.  He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his sons, Trent (Camille Trivanovich) Hanzie of Wooster, Michael (Tracy) Hanzie of Creston, and John (Michelle) Hanzie of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Cassie (Russ) McAllister, Tyler Hanzie, Taryn (Tyler) Mills, Jonathan Cole, Taylor (Trevor) Jorg, Mia Hanzie, Bill Trivanovich and Camille (Chris) Malta and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Blake, Catherine, Trevyn, Troy, Treyson, Truett, Oaklee, Cove, Camie and Cecilia; sisters, Helen Snyder of Creston and Jeanne (Ken) Glessner of Creston; brother-in-law, Bill Hardgrove of Rittman and sister-in-law, Phyllis Hanzie of Creston.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen, his parents, a sister Carole Hardgrove and a brother, Don Hanzie.

There will be no services.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
