Genevieve Kathryn Elliston, 100, of Creston, died Sunday evening, Dec. 18, 2016 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster following a period of declining health.
She was bon March 20, 1916 in Spencer to the late Horace and Josephine (Fuller) Heilman and was a graduate of Ashland High School. In 1938 she married Ross M. Sheets who preceded her in death in 1960. In 1963 she married Rex Elliston and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2016. She had been an active member of Chippewa Church of the Brethren where she was active in women’s groups, was a Sunday School Teacher and served as the Church Chorister. She was a member of the former Canaan Grange having made all the jams and jellies for the fair booth, and later was a member of the Madisonburg Grange. She was an avid quilter having made over 30 quilts over the years and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She and Rex were avid gardening having done canning well into their 90’s.
Surviving are her daughter, JoAnn Garrison and Don Gunnels of Wooster; a son, Wilbur and Kate Sheets of Dallas Center, IA; 4 grandchildren, Brian and Jenni Garrison, Beth and Bill Kemp, Michael and Diane Sheets and Jeremy and Tara Sheets and 9 great-grandchildren, Davis, Grace and Ross Garrison, Payton, Parker and Mckenna Sheets and Amelia, Isabelle and Chloe Kemp.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, a son, Ross Sheets, Jr. and a sister, Lucille Roice.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call from 12:00 noon until time of services. Burial will be in Chippewa Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
