Garland Tackett, 84, of Rittman died Friday, April 27, 2018 at Barberton Summa Hospital after a brief illness.
Garland was born Nov. 26, 1933 in Melvin, KY to the late Lathiat and Phenie (Osborne) Tackett and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in accounting.. He retired from Volvo White in Orrville after many years of service and been the Marshallville Village Clerk for over 20 years as well as had operated his own Income Tax Service. He had made his home in Marshallville most of his life moving to Rittman five years ago and was a member of the Marshallville Lions Club and the Marshallville Historical Society. Garland attended the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Norton and enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards, watching sports and Blue Grass Music. He loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Mark and Rosemary Tackett of Doylestown, Melissa and Rick Moss of Rittman and Michael and Belinda Dale Tackett of Marshallville; grandchildren, Drew Tackett, Nicole and her husband Dave Scaggs, Chase Tackett and Alicia Tackett; great-grandchildren, Tori and Colten Tackett and a sisters, Christine “Kitty” England of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 14 sisters.
Services will be Tuesday, May 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Mike Cope officiating. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Garland will be buried on Monday, May 7th at 2:30 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with honors.
