Evelyn Marie Cunningham, 92, of Orrville, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at West View Healthy Living in Wooster after a brief illness.
Evelyn was born Sept. 14, 1925 in Smithville to the late Weldon and Verda (Hackett) McKee and was a 1944 graduate of Apple Creek High School. She married James W. Cunningham on Oct. 15, 1949 and he preceded her in death on Aug. 1, 2012. Evelyn had been a beautician for 50 years having operated her own beauty shop out of her home. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Apple Creek and was a member of the Wayne County Historical Society, Apple Creek Historical Society and the Wilderness Society. Evelyn had been a member of Rural Youth as well as was active in 4-H in her youth and is remembered as an antique little girl who loved traveling, camping, playing cards and singing. She wanted to see everything at least once in her life and lived life to the fullest.
Surviving are her children, Mark (Kay) Cunningham of Apple Creek and Mary Ann (James) Stereff of Erie, MI; a granddaughter, Chandra Fowler and her children, Jaci and Josie Fowler; a step-grandson, Scott Glasgow and his children, Michael, Kim and Jared Glasgow and a brother, Ronald McKee of Ada, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, Welker, Harold and Kenneth McKee and a sister, Marlene Hall.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held Saturday, March 10th at 12:00 noon at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Stephen Broache officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. In remembrance of Evelyn wear a little red. Evelyn and Jim will be buried at Apple Creek Cemetery at a later date.
