Elmer E. Gasser

Elmer E. Gasser, 74, of Wooster, formerly of Creston, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a brief battle with cancer. Elmer was born May 1, 1942 in Wadsworth to the late Elmer and Bertha (Lance) Gasser Sr. and married the former Darla E. Landes on Feb. 20, 1960. She survives. He graduated from Norwayne High School in 1960 and began working at the age of 10 at Art Maibach’s farm. Over the years, Elmer worked for UPS, was a self employed contractor and home remodeler and retired in 2004 from Westfield Companies having worked at the golf course. He had his home in Creston most of his life having moved to Wooster in 2013 and had wintered in Bradenton, FL for the past 18 years. He had been a member of the Creston Moose Lodge, served on the Creston Fire Dept., was a member of Creston Senior Citizens and served on the Creston Zoning Board having served as the zoning inspector for several years. Elmer enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting and school events and spending time woodworking, fishing, golfing and traveling. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife, Darla; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Jim Underwood of Seville, Traci and Wesley Leonard of New Philadelphia and Tami and Les Scruggs of Creston; 6 grandchildren, Kyle and Krista Pelfrey, Crystal and Allan Geitgey, Austin Okey, Andrew Underwood, Cody Scruggs and Christopher Scruggs; great-grandchildren, Chase and Colton Geitgey and Karter Pelfrey; a sister, Gladys Bauman of Sterling and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Pelfrey; his parents, and sisters and brothers, Delores Bischoff, Donald Gasser, J. Lewis Gasser and Josephine Dunevant. Services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call Friday from 3-7 p.m. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.
