Obituary

Ellen D. Crawford Moss, 83, of Creston, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016 at Summa-Barberton Hospital following a brief illness. Ellen was born Aug. 16, 1933 in Fort Gay, W.Va. to the late Tracy and Augusta (Perry) Smith and graduate from, Rittman High School and attended Kent State University. She married the late Burgess “Bud” Crawford and together they had three children, Sheila, Pamela and Robert. Ellen loved helping and taking care of her grandchildren, including Alexandria, Johnny and Sarah that she helped raise and had been a substitute teacher at Burbank and Creston Schools. She always a part of the church, having been a Sunday School teacher and pianist and enjoyed writing editorials and short stories, quilting, traveling and people. She attended Canaan Free Will Baptist Church in Creston. Surviving are her children, Sheila and Bill Buckeye of West Lafayette, Pamela Crawford of Logan and Robert Crawford of Creston; grandchildren, Jason, Janna, Alexandria, Johnny, Sarah, Blaine, Hilary and Ben; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard and Barbara Smith of Rittman and Tom and Shirley Smith of Show Low, AZ; a sister-in-law, Jean Smith of Mesa, AZ; a special uncle and aunt, David and Molly Smith of Rittman and nieces and nephews including special nephew, Tracy Smith. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Smith on Aug. 21, 2016. Services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Mike Gladson officiating. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
