Earl Colin Scott

Earl C. Scott, 80, of Creston, passed peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023.

Earl was born on July 23, 1943 in Ripley Township, Holmes County to Harold W. and Dorothy Alice (Smith) Scott.  He graduated from Randolph High School in 1961 and from Bowling Green State University in 1965 with a degree in education.  On Aug. 7, 1965 he married his high school girlfriend, Jerrie Jean Misner and she preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2019.  Earl retired from Barberton High School in 1999 where he taught Math and then drove trucks for Ryder Truck Rental for 20 years.  He had made his home in the Green and Akron area until moving to Creston to live with family. He was a member of the Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church.  Earl enjoyed gardening, working puzzles, traveling with Jerrie and many great times spent with family.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Jeanne Scott of North Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and John Murray of Creston; his grandson, Garrison Scott Murray; sisters, Marjorie Riemenschnider of South Bend, IN, Pauline Larwood of Ojai, CA and Carolyn “Susie” Crites of Alliance; a sister-in-law, Gloria Scott of Richland, WA and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jerrie, his parents and a brother, Bill Scott.

Services will be Friday, Dec. 15th at 11:00a.m.at Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church with Pastor Lori Burdette-Steele officiating.  Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Side Cemetery.  Friends may call on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Earl’s church, Creston-Canaan United Methodist Church, PO Box 1111, Creston, OH 44217 or to the Gilcrest Center, 2375 Benden Dr., Wooster, OH 44691.
