Duane A. Zimmerman

August 24, 1926 — May 17, 2018

Duane A. Zimmerman, 91, of Wooster, died peacefully on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at LifeCare Hospice following a brief illness.

Duane was born Aug. 24, 1926 in Marshallville to the late Howard and Corle (Ault) Zimmerman and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On March 3, 1951 he married the former Mary J. Woods and together they shared 67 years of marriage. Duane owned and operated Zimmerman Steel, Rule and Die Co. for over 20 years. Until retiring, he had made his home in the Sterling area prior to moving to Wooster. He was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Wayne Aires Barbershop Chorus. Duane enjoyed wood working, playing euchre and was a die-hard croquet player. He loved being with family and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; children, Dennis Zimmerman of Johnson City, NY, Kim (Deborah) Zimmerman of Hatfield, PA, Barry (Lois) Zimmerman of Sterling, Shelley (Dan) Geib of Jeromesville and Teresa (Dean) French of Wooster; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one expected in August; a sister, Corlene Snyder of Wooster and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dale.

Services will be Monday May 21stat 11:00 a.m. at Sterling United Methodist Church with Pastor Tami Toothman-Shoup officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Sterling. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.
