Doris Marie Metsker Thompson

Doris Marie Metsker Thompson, 91, of Wooster, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 at Smithville-Western Care Center after a period of declining health.

Doris was born Nov. 2, 1927 in East Canton to the late Jesse and Olive Ruth (Miller) Schweitzer and was a 1947 graduate of East Canton High School.  On Nov. 2, 1963 she married Robert C. Metsker who preceded her in death on May 27, 1982.  Later she married Donald Thompson who died on March 14, 2007.  Doris was a member of Grace Church in Wooster where she was involved in child care at the church and over the years enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and her flower and vegetable gardens.

Surviving are her children, Rebecca (Andrew) Troyer of Delaware, Charles Metsker of Akron and Roger Metsker of Burbank; grandchildren, Stephen Troyer, Emily Troyer, Jacob Metsker and Caleb Metsker and two brothers, Harold (Velma) Schweitzer of Louisville and Carl Schweitzer of Bolivar.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, a sister, Elaine Weber and infant half-brothers.

Services will be Friday, Sept. 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Bud Olszewski officiating.  Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.  The family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff at Smithville-Western Care Center and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare for the wonderful care given to Doris.
