Doretta Mae George

Doretta was born Jan. 30, 1935 in Lodi to H. Dean and Faye B. (Miller) Wood and was a 1952 graduate of Homerville High where she was the class Valedictorian. She entered the U.S. Air Force on July 28, 1953 and honorably served until May 26, 1955. On Jan. 29, 1955 she married Richard J. George and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1998. Doretta had made her home in Kentucky, Florida and for the past 20 years in the Wooster area. She was a member of American Legion Post 68 in Wooster and is remembered for her love of flowers and decorating her home. Doretta was always “dressed to the nines” and enjoyed socializing with family and friends.

Surviving are her 3 grandchildren, Jimmy, Christina and Aaron; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Sonja) Wood of Homerville, a brother-in-law, James Underwood of Wooster and a sister-in-law, Connie Wood of Wooster as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doretta was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Becky Land in 1997, her twin sister, Dorene Underwood; a sister Betty Hall and brothers, Ronald and Edward Wood.

Graveside services will be Monday, July 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens with military honors. Friends may all Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. The family extends their deepest appreciation to Amber and the Staff of Brookdale in Wooster and to Brookdale Hospice for the wonderful care give to Doretta. Your love and support will always be remembered.
