Donald Thorton McCay, 77, of Wooster, died peacefully while sitting in his chair on Monday, April 30, 2018 after an apparent heart attack.
Don was April 18, 1941 in Wooster to the late Thorton and Roberta (Beavon) McCay and was a 1959 graduate of Waynedale High School where he excelled in Basketball. He later graduated from Bluffton University in 1964 and received his Master’s Degree in Education from Akron University in 1968. On Dec. 19, 1970 he married the former Sandra Tittle and she survives. Don had been a guidance counselor at Dalton High School and later at the Wayne County Schools Career Center where he retired from after 30 years of service. He attended the Wooster United Methodist Church and was a member of the NRA and the Wayne County Trap Shooters. Don was an avid hunter and enjoyed trap shooting.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy; nieces and nephew; Bobbie (Steve) Combs of Burbank, Georgie (Jr.) Miller of Fredericksburg, Andrea (Steve) Pilottis of Chagrin Falls, Kristen Downey of West Point, NY and Vance Downey of Smithville and great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth Mann and Betty Downey.
Services will be Saturday, May 5that 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Rev. Charles Tobias officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery.
