Deborah L. Mathys

Deborah L. “Debbie” Mathys, 73, of Creston, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after a brief illness.

Debbie was born on Jan. 9, 1953 in Wadsworth to Roderick and Dolly M. (Swecker) Cromer and graduated from Northwest High School. In 1991 she married Duane L. Mathys and they shared 35 years together. Debbie had worked at Denny’s, Walmart and the Stop-N-Go and had made her home in Creston since 1985. She was kind and generous and enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a Christian woman who believe in her salvation through Jesus Christ.

Surviving is her husband, Duane; children, Jennifer Mathys, Jeff (Amanda) Mathys and Joel (Tara) Mathys; grandchildren, Mia Mathys, Melissa Mathys, Aleana Payson and Jacob Payson; her brothers and sisters, Penny Mong, Pamlea Cromer, Dan Cromer, Bill Cromer and Tom (Linda) Cromer and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Cromer.
