David Allen Grimwood went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of March 9, 2023. His family enjoyed precious time with him in the days leading up to his passing. A deep, restful peace came over David in his last hours. He was 73 years old.
David was born in Wooster, Ohio on December 21, 1949. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a committed disciple of Jesus, and often told the story of his day of salvation - Easter morning 1982.
David is survived by his wife, whom he absolutely adored and gushed over, Susan (Richard) Grimwood. David and Sue were married on June 30, 1973. He is also survived by his three children, Nichole Grimwood, Greg (Cara) Grimwood, and Julie (Sean) Hartzler, all of Wooster. He was proud of each of his kids, and communicated that to them regularly. David has six grandchildren: Abby and McKenzie Grimwood, Makayla Maxwell, and Brennen, Kennedy, and Jacob Hartzler, all of Wooster. He loved being their Grandpa.
He loved his family, and was always available for conversation, ice cream, whatever. He truly prioritized quality time and fun together. Vacations were a priority, and he was always up for a mean game of euchre. He was impossible to beat, but was gracious in winning. He modeled a deep, consistent prayer life, and at one point had several books (books!) of the Bible memorized.
David graduated in 1968 from Northwestern High School. He graduated from Findlay College in 1972. He was a beloved teacher and coach, though sometimes feared, for thirty-three years. Dave had served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was always proud of his Military Service. He also sold Real Estate with his wife for several years. In 2010 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and later Lewy Body Dementia. He never, ever complained.
David also enjoyed loving relationships with a large community of extended family, former students and players whom he coached. He was affectionately known by so many as Coach Grimwood. He was known for being able to turn teams around, and inspire every bit of talent and drive out of his students and players. He cared for them, and they knew it.
David was born to Margaret (Little) and Paul Grimwood who both preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Ruth (Todd) Swallen, and sisters-in-law Sara (Jim) Mowrer, Marian Howman, Jan Richard, and Nancy Richard, and brothers-in-law Ken (Barb) Richard and Pat (Carolyn) Mosier.
