Davey Crockett Higgins

Davey Crockett Higgins, 71, of Orrville, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026, at University Hospital in Cleveland after a brief illness.

Davey was born in Wooster on June 25, 1955, and was the youngest child of Howard and Virginia (Stewart) Higgins. He grew up in Creston and served in the U.S. Army from 1976 – 1979. He had retired from Caraustar in Rittman and had later worked at the Wayne County Care Center. On Dec. 7, 2005, he married Charlene Ratliff Johnston who survives. Davey loved being with his family, which included fishing with his brothers and spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, animals, especially his dog Macy and he is remembered for always being the life of the party.

Surviving is his wife, Charlene; his children, Jennifer and her husband Teddy Chong of Orrville, Brent Higgins of Lakeland, Fl and Misty and her husband Ryan Speedy of Barberton; step-sons, Stephen and his wife Tobie Johnston of Seattle and David and his wife Jen Johnston of Louisianna; his five grandchildren, Lizzie Chong, Avery and Ava Speedy and Jayleen and Stephen Johnston; brother, Gary and his wife Peggy Higgins of Apple Creek; sisters, Sandy and her husband Chuck Marquess of Akron and Bonnie Whitmyer of Wooster; sisters-in-law, Debra Higgins of Auburn, IN and Debbie Higgins of Wooster and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gerald, Ralph, Randy and Charles and sisters, Cheryl Shedd and Pamela Brown.

Services will be Thursday, July 2nd at 11:45 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following at 12:45 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
