Daniel S. (Locker Dan) Hershberger

Daniel S. “Locker Dan” Hershberger, 79, of Holmesville, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 at St. Peter’s Health Center in Helena, MT after suffering a stroke. He was born in Wayne County on Oct. 13, 1944 to the late Simon S. and Anna (Yoder) Hershberger and married Ruth Berdean Yoder on Oct. 19, 1964.  He had owned and operated the Locker in Fredericksburg where he butchered and sold meat and later continued butchering on family farms.  Danny later became a Charter Boat Captain on Lake Erie which he did for 33 years.  He also was a taxi driver for the Amish and traveled to every state except Hawaii. He was a hunting guide for over 20 years. He was a good cook and cooked for his hunters as well as banquets. He loved doing talks at schools and banquets.  For the past 3 years he enjoyed volunteering at the Myakka State Park in Sarasota as their volunteer birder. He loved playing card games and hosted many Rook parties at his home. He loved adventure and went scuba diving, sky diving, bungee jumping, canoeing through the everglades and fishing in the ocean or wherever. Danny was a member of the Mennonite Christian Assembly in Fredericksburg. Surviving is his wife, Ruth of nearly 60 years; his children and their spouses, Jay and Amy Hershberger of Helena, MT, Lori and the late Rick Day of Holmesville and Rick and Tamara Hershberger of Dover; 8 grandchildren, Kendall and his wife Rebecca Hershberger, Jeffrey, lane, Chad and Tyler Hershberger, Craig and his wife Brittany Day, Stephanie and her husband, Cory Baker and Max Hershberger; 6 great-grandchildren and a brother, Eddie and his wife, Mary Hershberger of Campobello, SC. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rick Day, his parents, brothers, Levi and Henry Hershberger and sisters, Rebecca Laughter and Katie Marlow. Services will be Monday, Sept. 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at MCA in Fredericksburg with Pastor John Risner officiating.  Burial will be in the Yoder Cemetery near Mount Eaton.  Friends may call on Sunday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MCA.  Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements
