Cossie Edward Summers, 89, of Burbank passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024 at Burbank Parke Care Center after a brief illness.
Cossie was born on June 26, 1935 in Ovapa, WV to Cossie E. and Stella (White) Summers and was a 1955 graduate of Clay County High School. On Nov. 1, 1958 he married Jeannetta Jean Given and Jean preceded him in death on May 2, 2024. Cossie served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1960 having been stationed in Korea. He had worked at Seville Bronze for many years and later retired from Falcon Industries in Medina. In retirement he worked at Murray Funeral Home and did woodworking and small projects for numerous people. He was very proud that he had built his “final bed”. Cossie was a 30 year member of the Creston Lions Club, was active with the Creston Fireman’s Sale and the Creston Ox Roast and Fish Fry. He was honored as a Harry Hawk Day Award and was honored as a Creston Citizen of the Year.
Surviving his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and James Murray of Creston; granddaughter her husband, Jamie and Jon Wellert of West Salem; great-grandchildren, Jillian and Joshua Wellert; brother, Steve Summers of Moreland; sister, Judy Stanley of St. Albans, WV and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; brother, Harold Summers and sisters, Olive Brown, Imogene Shamblin, Opal Crawford, Lois Weiland and Mildred Summers.
Services will be Monday, Oct. 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with burial following in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
