Cora A. Tooley, 73, of Rittman, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at her home after a brief illness.
Cora was born on Dec. 8, 1952, in Rum Creek near Logan, West Virginia to Harry and Geraldine (Lowe) Chambers. On Jan. 30, 1970, she married Gary Lee Tooley, and they had made their home in Rittman for over 50 years. Gary preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2025. Cora had been the manager at Hardy’s in Rittman for over 25 years and was known for her great biscuits. She was a member of South Main St. Church of God. Cora was everybody’s friend and never met a stranger. She loved the outdoors, vacations to the beach, bird watching and trips to West Virginia to see family. She loved her grandkids with her whole heart, and she loved to sing even though she wasn’t very good. She will be missed but will always be remembered.
Surviving are her 2 sons, Shawn and his wife Heather Tooley and Bandon Tooley and Jamie Grimmett; her much loved grandchildren, Layla Tooley, Gabriel Tooley and Gavin Tooley; her sister, Gerri Ball and nieces and nephews including special niece and caregiver, Robin Evans.
Cora was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; brothers and sisters, Grover Chambers, Harry Chambers, Donna Curry, Alice Price, Dorothy Young, Thelma Eplin, Betty DeLong and infants, Mary Catherine and Thomas.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, Sept. 5th at 3:00 p.m. at South Main St. Church of God in Rittman. Cora and Gary will be buried together at the Chambers Cemetery in Rum Creek. Murray Funeral Hom in Creston is handling arrangements.
