Charles W. "Sparky" Hanna

Charles W. “Sparky” Hanna, 99, of Creston, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at Burbank Parke Care Center following a period of declining health.

Charles was born Jan. 23, 1917 in Creston and was the third son of Dr. Charles M. and Mary A. (Marshall) Hanna. He resided in Burbank most of his life having graduated from Burbank High School in 1935 and had served as postmaster in Burbank for nine years. Later he went to work at Timken Roller Bearing Co. as a tool and dye maker and retired from there in 1980 after 30 years of service.

Charles married the former Nona A. Shadley on April 15, 1939 and they shared 62 years of very happy marriage traveling extensively throughout North America and wintering a number of years in Texas and Florida. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2001.

To this union was born two children, Victoria D. Nichols of West Chester and Van J. Hanna of New Franklin who both survive in addition to grandchildren, Jennifer Rowe and Zachary Hanna and great-granddaughter, Bryanna Rowe. Sparky is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his dear friend and companion, Mary Sigler of Creston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers, Harry and Carter Hanna.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Canaan Cemetery with Pastor Deborah Quillen officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.
