Charles Gelvin

December 13, 1939 — March 8, 2017

Charles M. Gelvin, 77, of Wadsworth, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Akron City Hospital.

Born in Galion on Dec. 13, 1939 to the late Charles and Mary Gelvin, he married Iva Ilene Staats on Aug. 21, 1960 and she survives. He graduated from Galion High School and was a meat manager at Red Bird Foodliner in Wadsworth and Sparkle Market in Akron. Mr. Gelvin was head deacon at Ambassador Baptist Church in Wadsworth for the past 32 years and enjoyed antique cars and woodworking. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest enjoyment and he will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Ilene; daughter, Dena Lynn (Thomas) Thompson of Wadsworth; son, Chuck (Lori) Gelvin of Wooster; grandchildren, Lauren (Jacob) Hastings, Courtney (Dustin Geitgey) Gelvin; Lindsey (Daniel) Moore, Zachery Thompson, Jeremy Thompson and Emily (Erik) Wallace; great-grandchildren, Kenna and Colton Hastings and Kellen Wallace; a brother, Russell (Marjorie) Gelvin of Mansfield and a sister, Shirley Vess of Wooster. A half-brother, Richard McCumber died previously.

Services will be Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Ambassador Baptist Church in Wadsworth, where friends may call Friday from 4-8 at the church and one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wadsworth. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com Memorials may be made to Ambassador Baptist Church, 620 Trease Rd., Wadsworth, OH 44281.
