Obituary:

Bernice Aldine Johnson, 87, of Sterling, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Sanctuary of Wadsworth following a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 29, 1928 in Smithville to the late Charles and Josephine (Yoss) Marty and married Albert D. Johnson on Feb. 1, 1953. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1999. She had worked at McIntire Basket Factory in Creston and at Latex in Chippewa Lake and had made her home in the Sterling area most or her life. Bernice enjoyed playing Bingo and Euchre, crocheting, doing word searches and puzzle and being with her Grand Babies.

Surviving are her sons, James Johnson with whom she had lived, Randy Johnson and daughter Patricia Elswick; 7 grandchildren including Jessica Chakey and Crystal Johnson who cared for her over the last several years and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Terry Johnson in 1972; a sister Pearl Schaub and brothers, Wilford, Walter and Paul Marty.

Services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call from 12:00 until services at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Sterling Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be made in care of Murray Funeral Home, 173 S. Main St., Creston, OH 44217 for final expenses.
